Hi Joe I am probably making work for myself but for years, PP has been able to control/see another PP instance over the network. Maybe setting a server option in PP and monitoring with an application on my desktop? Suggestions welcome!

My question is: does anyone run PP on a remote PC instance and monitor it across a network? I could install VNC or similar I suppose, but would prefer something a bit more lightweight. I would like to run this "headless" (no screen and keyboard) if possible, but I would like to be able to monitor the PP client screen from my main desktop. At present I'm in the process of updating it to Win 10 20H2 and I am going to install PlanePlotter and connect my Beast via direct USB connection and, if it works out, I may switch to this setup and run it instead of my current Beast / modesmixer2 / ppup1090 combination.

The remote control feature is not a substitute for VNC or TeamViewer but it provides some measure of control over the "upstairs" instance.įrom: On Behalf Of fat_tony Sent: 14 March 2021 15:20 To: Subject: Remote access to PlanePlotter running on headless Windows 10 server - possible? The "upstairs" instance may be operating as a Ground Station and may be connected to the sharing system round the clock, while the "downstairs" instance may only be operated on demand and not be connected to the sharing system directly at all.įor ease of understanding, we will use the terms "upstairs" and "downstairs" for the two instances although they may, in fact, be at different locations if you are familiar with setting up a VPN. The remote control feature facilitates the operation of PlanePlotter on two separate machines on a LAN in which only one machine is accessing the sharing system but both machines are able to see all the local and shared traffic.Ī typical application might be where one instance of PlanePlotter is running "upstairs" in an attic, say, close to the receiver and its associated antenna, and a second instance of PlanePlotter is running "downstairs" where it is more accessible. Read the Help file about it because I cannot remember anything. So long, in fact, that it may not even work any more, but it may be worth a try.
